Kilns regularly leave the Canadian factory for the UK using reserved air cargo to minimise the freight charges. Air cargo typically takes four days. Sea freight takes at least seven weeks: or longer, as resellers often secure advance payments then wait to collect enough orders to fill a container.
The kilns are made to order, take about ten working days to build, and will arrive on a palette or in a crate.
IMPORTANT
The kilns will come in a crate. Delivery drivers are not allowed to lift heavy goods on their own, so make sure that you have friends available who can help. The freight company will charge you if they have to redeliver.
EU SAFETY REGULATIONS
US-made firebrick kilns have live heating elements that are exposed whenever the door or lid is open. To comply with EU safety regulations, an additional switch, included in the price, is fitted to cut off the power whenever the kiln is opened. Exposed live elements are very dangerous, and illegal in the UK.
UK SAFETY REGULATIONS
It'll be too late to think about safety practices and equipment after an accident. Apart from kiln accessories, the on-line shop includes heat resistant ceramic blocks and cloths, digital reminder-timers, fire extinguishers, heat-resistant gloves, and glare-resistant glasses.
It's important to have your fire extinguisher near your kiln. Read the instructions as soon as you unpack it, learn how to treat burns, buy a basic first aid kit, and fit a smoke alarm.
For private home use, check your building and contents insurance for relevant exclusions. For business use, you'll need public liability insurance and will have to comply with health and safety regulations.
Businesses and course providers might have to get change-of-use planning consent for proposed building changes and provide staff training, safety glasses, fire extinguishers, first-aid materials, disabled access, a bathroom, and fire exits.
FURNITURE KITS
Nearly every kiln has a recommended furniture kit, an appropriate mix of shelves and shelf posts, included in the price. Extra shelf kits allow you to stack your work, optimising your use of the firing chamber volume, and your time.
It's very important to understand what the shelf kit consists of, why you might need a different one, and why you might need more than one. If you're not sure, go back and read more before completing your order,
The shop prices are for shelf kits ordered with your kiln. Extra kits, ordered and delivered separately, may be heavy and need special protective packing: so mail or call first to check if there will be an extra delivery charge.
GUARANTEES AND PARTS
The programmers are guaranteed for 24 months and the digital pyrometer for 12 months. Other kiln parts are guaranteed for 90 days. Before ordering any parts, please call first with the serial number of your kiln.
